
In the year 1970, Stevie Wonder left MoTown and recorded two independent albums by himself. Berry Gordy was shocked when Stevie Wonder told him this. Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's demand for more freedom and control of his creativity over his entire catalog of songs. Stevie Wonder signed a contract worth thirteen million dollars with MoTown Records in 1972. Stevie Wonder was entitled to a higher royalty rate as well as more creative control and rights to his songs. This was a unique opportunity for artists at that time. Wonder's songs now could discuss controversial issues like poverty,war and drugs. The first album he had released under his new contract with MoTown was, Music Of My Mind in 1972. Talking Book, Stevie Wonder's 1972 album, is a landmark in the history of rock music. The album included Superstition the most popular hit single.
